An enzyme shuts it off
An enzyme called PDE5 ends that signal. In ED, the signal fades too fast or is too weak to begin with.
PDE5 inhibitors keep it going
Sildenafil, tadalafil and vardenafil slow PDE5, so the signal lasts and blood flow builds. Apomorphine, in some formulas, works on arousal signals in the brain.
